Graduate Programs

The Department of Zoology offers graduate programs of study leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.

Eighty to ninety students are usually enrolled in our graduate program at any given time. Each student is admitted to the graduate program under the sponsorship of a faculty member whose research interests match those of the applicant.  We urge applicants to review carefully the research interests of the faculty, and to contact those faculty members with whom they might like to work well in advance of the application deadline (December 1st), to inquire about possible sponsorship.

Students can satisfy the degree requirements for the Zoology Department alone, or obtain a joint degree with one of MSU’s interdisciplinary graduate programs. Go to the page for prospective students to learn more about these options and how to apply. Other links at right provide additional information about the program.
