When Hyenas think "outside the box"
Read about a new study conducted by Zoology alumnus Sarah Benson-Amram (Coauthor of paper: Dr. Kay Holekamp) in the current issue of the Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
In this study, hyenas attempted to open steel puzzle boxes containing meat. The study revealed that the successful hyenas tried more solutions than those hyenas who failed to open the boxes. One surprising discovery? That persistence did not appear to be a factor, in the hyenas' success.
