Changing Your Major
NOTE: If you wish to change your MAJOR within Zoology, e.g. from
- a BS Zoology to a BS Environmental Biology / Zoology, or
- a BA Zoology to a BS Zoology,
- etc.,
the process you follow depends upon your year. See the applicable steps below.
Change CONCENTRATION in BS Zoology
FRESHMEN and SOPHOMORES
wishing to change into or out of a Zoology major should go to the Student Academic Affairs office of the Undergraduate University Division (UUD) closest to where they live.
JUNIORS and SENIORS
wishing to change to a Zoology major should fill out the appropriate form at the Academic Student Affairs Office of the College of Natural Science, 103 Natural Science. *
Juniors and seniors wishing to change to a major that is not in the College of Natural Science will need to find out to what college that department belongs. Then they should go to the Academic Student Affairs Office of that college.
SENIORS who change their major should be aware that, according to Academic Programs (see Undergraduate Education > Graduation Requirements > Graduation Requirements for a Bachelor's Degree) to receive the Bachelor's degree you must:
"Complete at least 20 credits at Michigan State University while enrolled in the major in the college in which the degree is to be earned."
Change CONCENTRATION in BS Zoology MAJOR
e.g.,you wish to change from
- BS Zoology, Animal Behavior & Neurobiology concentration to BS Zoology, Ecology, Evolution and Organismal Biology concentration, or
- BS Zoology,Cell and Developmental Biology concentration to BS Zoology, Zoo and Aquarium Science concentration,
- etc.,
please go the Zoology Department Main Office, 203 Natural Science. Ask that the change be noted on your file.
Current Lyman Briggs College Zoology majors
who want to:
- change or declare their coordinate majors to Zoology: go to the Lyman Briggs College Office.
- change out of Lyman Briggs but still want to complete the Zoology major through the College of Natural Science: start your major change request through Lyman Briggs. Lyman Briggs will contact the College of Natural Science to complete the major change. If you are a BS Zoology student, you then need to declare your concentration. Once your major is changed (see STUINFO), go to the Zoology Department Main Office, 203 Natural Science. Ask that the concentration be noted on your file.
- change their concentration within Zoology, but still complete the coordinate major in Zoology through Lyman Briggs College: go to the Zoology Department Main Office, 203 Natural Science. Ask that the concentration be noted on your file.
